Welcome to Dominio Buenavista Winery The winery Dominio Buenavista was born from a dream: to be able to elaborate high quality monovarietales wines in our hidden village in the Sierra Nevada. The founder, Juan M Palomar, during a visit to Napa Valley in California, discovered the great wines from the area. At the same time he noticed the resemblance in climate and geography between that region in California and his village from Granada, Spain. It was with an explosion of illusion and joy that we begin to work on the project. First by planting wild root stock at the family farm and then, two years later, grafting stems hand carried from Santa Rosa, in California to our small village of Ugíjar. The adventure of wine making had started! The first vines were planted in 1992 and the winery was concluded by 1998. The grapes and wines are produced and processed in the land of Dominio Buenavista Farm which belongs to our family. On the farm, beside grapes, we grow figs, almonds and olives from centenary trees of the “Lechin” variety. With these olives we produce an exquisite Extra Virgin Olive Oil exported to the United States with the brand name Veleta. In rural areas of the country, particularly in Andalusia, a reverse selection is occurring: people with means or higher education are leaving the villages and settling in to the cities. It is a demographic movement opposite to the one happening in the past, where the less economically favored, left the land for the major urban centres. In this way, today, the villages are losing their human potential. The ingenuity, the quest for improvement and the motor of prosperity are disappearing. An effective way to reverse the trend would be for the ones who migrated, to return back to the villages and bring with them, their fortune, knowledge and illusion to motivate growth and restore the pride and wellbeing of their native area. Dominio Buenavista has brought employment to a group of local people and to the community, the pride from the national and international recognition on the trajectory of the wines. The winery has also become a meeting point where hundred of visitors from all over the world discover the beauty of our land. From this remote area in the Alpujarra we invite the curious traveller looking for new adventure to discover with their eyes our surrounding and with their palate our magnificent wines. See you in Ugijar! The Palomar Family.
